Working with horses in therapy- In addition to traditional office based counseling, Heidi offers interactive Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy and experiential learning.
Enhancing life skills through equine assisted counseling and learning is not a horsemanship or riding program, most of the activities are carried out on the ground, although some involve participants getting on the horse. It is a Mental Health oriented, interactive and experiential hands on therapeutic approach where the therapist and client have a opportunity to see and reflect on how the client interacts by how the horses respond to them. Whether Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is used in individual, family or group therapy, clients are able to look more deeply at the core issues that cause their attitudes and behaviors. Clients also learn that relationship's take time, work, respect and honesty. Another great benefit is that using horses can be a lot of fun!
